Birth certainly doesn’t always go as planned. But one mom is proving that with enough determination (and a lack of complications), it can come pretty close.
A mom has spoken of the incredible moment she delivered her own baby by lifting him out of her womb during a C-section.
Sarah Toyer, a mom from Queensland, Australia, knew that her fourth baby was also going to mark her fourth c-section delivery. And this time, she wanted to play a more active role in the process.
“When I discovered I was pregnant I was determined to have a maternal assisted c-section,” Toyer wrote on Facebook in a post promoted by Birth Without Fear. “I talked to every midwife, doctor and surgeon about what I wanted to do, but they all said it would depend on the surgeon on call that day.”
Luckily for Toyer, the surgeon was on board.
“I was standing there next to the surgeon scrubbing up just as she was. Maybe half an hour later, I was lying on the operating table watching my son’s head being pulled from my womb,” she writes. “I reached down and put my hands under his arms and lifted the rest of him out of my own body. It was the most incredible thing I have ever done.”
